How to set your device to sleep without using the power button.

Have you ever wondered the possibility of putting your phone to sleep or to put it on without using the power button? Well it's possible through the use of your phones proximity sensor.
Some high end phones such as Samsungs have them pre-installed or as part of their O.S, but how about the small,cheap android devices? Most of them simply come with the sensors but  never even help the consumers use these sensors.
